SEATTLE – Urban Financial Services Coalition – Puget Sound Chapter Founding President Lizzie L. Evans will cut the ribbon at a Sod Cutting Ceremony held at Liberty Specialist Institute in Koforidua, Ghana on July 14, 2011. The LSI is building a state of the art, three-story dormitory to house future business and accounting students on the 20+ year old campus. The building is dedicated in the UFSC-PS Chapter’s name honoring Founder Lizzie L. Evans. The three-story building will be the icon on the campus. On behalf of the UFSC-PS Chapter members, I’m grateful to attend and accept this prestigious honor.

The Liberty Specialist Institute Sponsorship Program

Ms. Evans’ passion to liberate and educate young girls in Ghana began in 1999 at First A.M.E. Church Los Angeles as a co-founder of Project Africa under the leadership of former Senior Pastor Rev. Cecil “Chip” Murray. Project Africa connects the bridge from U.S. to the Liberty Specialist Institute (LSI) in Koforidua, Ghana. LSI became a corporate member of the UFSC-PS Chapter in July 2010. The LSI sponsorship program includes a foreign student exchange with University of Washington, financial literacy training abroad, and opportunities to teach professional accounting and business courses are available to the membership. The LSI program also enables young girls in villages to move into the financial mainstream and provide a suitable living for their families. “It’s amazing how much $600 a year impacts a young girl’s life in Koforidua,” states Lizzie Evans. The Annual “Hear the Cries of Africa” fundraising campaign further supports vulnerable youth in obtaining diplomas in accounting, business, and secretariat disciplines. This year the local FSC-PS Charitable Foundation raised $1,800 to sponsor three students at LSI. A special thanks to the following local sponsors:

the “4th Annual Scholarships & Awards Dinner” at the World Trade Center breathtaking Holland America Waterfront Dining Room on Saturday May 14, 2011 from 6:00 – 9:00 PM.

This fundraising dinner honors minority students attending accredited colleges or universities pursuing Undergraduate or Advanced Degrees (Graduate or Ph.D.) in Finance, Business or related financial services disciplines. The event also highlights the valued support of donors and contributors who make the scholarships and awards possible.

Seattle, WA – Pacific Coast Banking School (PCBS) and the Urban Financial Services Coalition (UFSC) have recently partnered to promote advanced education for diverse and high-potential leaders in the financial services industry.

For 73 years, Pacific Coast Banking School (PCBS) has offered a premier 25 month graduate-level leadership and financial management education program focused on the banking industry. Over 10,000 bankers have graduated from this school, with hundreds currently in key leadership roles across the country. Highly qualified participants in the banking and financial services community benefit from outstanding instruction, cutting-edge curriculum, and the diverse student body from organizations of all sizes.

One way in which the UFSC and Pacific Coast Banking School have manifested their relationship is to jointly fund a full program scholarship to PCBS. Students enroll in a 25 month program, which includes a two-week resident session each August for three years held on the University of Washington campus. The 2011 session dates are August 21 – September 2 and the tuition is $4,295, which includes a registration fee, single room accommodations, meals and classes, along with administrative and faculty support for intersession work. Last year’s scholarship amount was about 80% of this tuition, $3,400 per year for three years. Future scholarship amounts will be dependent upon the contribution from the FSC-PS Charitable Foundation, which PCBS will match up to a certain amount on an annual basis. The remaining tuition balance is the responsibility of the applicant.

The UFSC goal to create leadership opportunities for those in the financial services industry is enhanced by this partnership with Pacific Coast Banking School, one of the largest banking schools in the country.
