On behalf of the FSC-PS Charitable Foundation (Foundation) Board of Directors, we invite you to attend our 5th Annual Scholarships & Awards Dinner on May 12th. Through our 501(c) 3 non-profit entity FSC-PS Charitable Foundation, an organization of minority professionals and community volunteers from the financial services industry has a mission to support the Urban Financial Services Coalition – Puget Sound (UFSC-PS) Chapter. The Foundation also develops community youth organizations and programs, implements fundraise funding efforts aimed at promoting minority business, entreprenuership, and economic development programs external to the UFSC organization.

The UFSC-PS Chapter is also thankful for your financial support of other programs and activities that benefit inner city youth, college students and urban neighborhoods and disadvantaged communities. UFSC-PS Chapter is an affiliate of the national Urban Financial Services Coalition, which has over 21 chapters throughout the United States and Canada. UFSC members bring considerable expertise, experience and knowledge of financial services and products to underserved communities. Our members and volunteers are actively engaged in providing and promoting the following programs and activities:

 Financial Literacy Workshops

 Financial Awareness Information Sessions for Senior Citizens

Leadership, Limos and Luncheons…

A New Twist for Girls’ Spring Break

Seattle Launches a Dynamic Leadership Spring Break Camp for Girls Ages 11-14

Seattle, WA -  The Majors Leadership Academy, in collaboration with wakeUPgirl.com, launches a new twist on Spring Break Camps for Girls ages 11-14.  During the week of April 16th-20th, 2012 (Seattle Public Schools Spring Break), girls ages 11-14 from the Seattle area will participate in a Leadership Development program designed to provide them with the tools to be empowered as leaders.  The entire week they will be engaged in girl-centered, leadership-based workshops ranging from Jewelry Making, Poetry/Spoken Word and Self Esteem to Money Management and the Art of Being a Girl!

The leadership camp culminates on Friday, April 20th at the Girls Empowerment Luncheon Fundraiser – a ceremonial closing of the week together and a celebration of “Being a Girl” in Leadership!  The Luncheon is jointly co-sponsored by FSC-PS Charitable Foundation and Urban Financial Services Coalition-Puget Sound Chapter.  For the luncheon, girls will have an opportunity to dress up and be transported via limousine (courtesy of Seattle Green Limo) to a five-star lunch at the Seattle World Trade Center over-looking beautiful Puget Sound.  While enjoying a 3-course meal, renowned etiquette coach, Arden Clise, teaches them how to dine in a formal setting.

“I just wanted to create a world-class extraordinary experience that opens girls up to new possibilities.” says Founder and Director, Michelle Majors.  “It’s not enough to say, ‘this is what it takes to be a leader, or that is how leaders communicate’.  We have to EXPOSE them to new experiences outside of their current realm of reality.”

This full week camp and luncheon is being offered for $75.  (Limited scholarships available) Camp details are as follows: April 16th-20th from 9am – 4pm at the Martin Luther King Center, 3201 E. Republican St., Seattle WA.  Campers will have to bring their own lunch.  Space is limited and registration is required.  Register online today at www.themajorsleadershipacademy.com, click the “CAMPS” link, or call (425) 610.6070.

South Seattle Community College 13th Year Financial Literacy Workshops

In Economic Empowerment, Financial Literacy, JPM Chase, Money on March 16, 2012 at 9:52 pm

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Wednesday, March 15, 2012

SEATTLE — The Urban Financial Services Coalition – Puget Sound Chapter, a professional trade organization of financial services industry professionals, and Tabor 100, a Pacific Northwest association of small business owners/entrepreneurs and business constituents teamed up to teach Operation HOPE’s “Banking on Our Future” (BOOF) College Edition at South Seattle Community College (SSCC) held from March 13-15, 2012. “The mission of Operation HOPE is to expand economic opportunity in underserved communities through economic education and empowerment,” states David Bell, Senior Program Manager for Portland’s Operation Hope.  “We intentionally created an info-taining atmosphere in the classroom to build HOPE and dignity, providing the students with a sense of responsibility and discipline in managing their personal finances,” said Lizzie L. Evans, Founder and Immediate Past President of the UFSC-PS Chapter.

More than forty students pursuing undergraduate studies, facilitated by SSCC 13th Year Promise Scholarship Coordinator Chase Magliocca, participated in the Financial Literacy Workshops. Overall, the students generally agreed the material was new information that had never been seen before and was useful in developing their short-term and long-term goals.

Financial Beginnings, a Portland, Oregon based 501 (c) 3 provided workbooks with case studies covering budgeting, investing and saving, credit, and money management. The workshop achievable outcomes were measured by post-test after each session and certificates of completion congratulating the participants for taking control of their financial future.  JPMorgan Chase professional banking staff was available on-site and distributed information on starter accounts.

The UFSC-PS Chapter and Tabor 100 Financial Fitness team continues to encourage students to learn the basic money management skills; thus ushering underserved communities into mainstream banking. “Getting students thinking and acting earlier in this process is considered essential for keeping the youth on target for future success,” states Kevin Washington, Education Committee Chair for Tabor 100. If you are interested in scheduling a youth financial literacy program in your community, please contact UFSC-PS Chapter BOOF Program Lead Lizzie L. Evans at founder@ufscps.org . eEnterprises International will host the next BOOF certification webinar training. Additional information about the event is available on the Financial Fitness Program page at www.ufscps.org.
